The World As I See It

To me, the art of image making provides a window into ones soul. Everyone who makes an image with deliberate care is expressing their experience of the moment at the instant the shutter is released. Certainly that is my experience and my intention. The camera is a magnificent tool and one of the great inventions of the ages. Digital photography makes the experience ever so much more sublime.

To capture an image with focused intent and creatively is but one aspect of the trilogy of the artistic process. One must first have intimate knowledge of the science and practical use of their equipment, akin to a skilled marksman. Such must be the skill in use that the camera could be picked up in the dark and operated with knowledge and precision in all its functionality. Beyond the capture of an image it must be processed to coerce out the expression of the experience the artist felt when making it. An image is more than a two dimensional depiction of a place and time. Only through the artists hands, like any medium; paint, sculpture can the image be brought to life and evoke a common emotion in the viewer synergistic with the original artist.

My art is a journey; never complete, to express my experience and the feelings I have for the natural world. Beauty abounds from the tiniest leaf to the grandest landscape.  Nature renews me each day and there is never too much at hand. If I could photograph the world I would never tire but life constrains me to look close to what is near. The closer one looks the more one sees and at any scale nature is grand and endlessly beautiful. My happy place and time is spend in nature and expressing my gratitude for it with the images I make.
